Blogging Help: Make custom blogs?

I am a web designer and I'm new to blogging. A potential client asked me to put a blog on your site web. However, I've never done a blog before (mainly because they never asked for). I've looked at WordPress and it seems very confusing and uncustomizable completely (as you can not do your own customized page and then just put a piece of code in the place you want an area of comments that you have to use a template). Not sure about the details of what the customer wants, but they assume they want their new site to allow users to make comments. How I can do this? Does anyone know of a good online blog service, or more importantly, know of a tutorial you can use to set this up? Also, please do not include suggestions that involve heavy or advanced programming. I am a designer, not a programmer. Thank you all in advance!
