What exactly makes up the population?

Yesterday was COM Orbital Sciences Corp (ORB) 'day s for the quarterly earnings report. I woke up at 7 and wanted to buy it as soon as my agent service hour warranty becomes available. Offers and requests were much higher than current trading price. The stock was at about $ 24.17 the previous day and rose 5% to about $ 25.60 a few minutes passed 8AM. I looked volume, which was around 1100. How can a small unit volume of the stock 5% higher? The market capitalization of the population and 10 1.4B voulume days average a little over half a million. Anyone have good explanations? Thanks. by the way, anyone knows that the agent should extend service hours? I use ETrade and their service is 08 am-8 pm. Thanks

Well, it could have be influenced by two things: 1. Total outstanding shares are small, and therefore the trading volume would move with the highest percentage of price increases. 2. Purchase orders and selling cars only met that price. No volume specific need to do so. This is simply a case of high demand and limited supply.
