What are your favorite / most effective online tools for planning events? ?

What are your favorite / most Internet tools effectively planning events? (Ie, Facebook Events, blogs about events, people emailing about events …) I am planning a collection of bikes for a nonprofit organization and would like some help. I am planning a collection of bicycles as a project Eagle Scout, and I would like some help with the search tools to publicize and spread the word. I can not think of any tool to advertise so active and spread the word about events.
